There has a been a lot written about why most of us fail at sticking to diets or long term healthy change.
I don’t want to add the endless content about SMART goals, or turning your actions into lasting habits or creating a support group and accountability around you.
I’m cutting straight in… Because when it’s a matter of life and death, that stuff changes everything.
We live in a culture that doesn’t acknowledge our impending death well. I too, am often guilty of failing to acknowledge the fragility of life and more importantly, the value of good health.
So what is my point with this? I did say I would cut straight to it...
Being shown how your daily choices and the lifestyle you lead are resulting in your own likely death - well that creates the startling insight and the motivation to change.
The stats are all there, most of us will die from a lifestyle related disease like certain cancers, heart disease, diabetes, dementia or lung disease. As Lung Foundation Australia tell us, when you can’t breathe, nothing else matters.
And if those stats haven’t moved you, the scale of the problem might. In the last year 24 million deaths (via the non-communicable diseases listed above) - are believed to be preventable through the common lifestyles that we choose to live as individuals.
That’s 45 people dying every second from choosing to smoke, being inactive, eating unhealthily and drinking too much alcohol.
The time is NOW, to make this about life or death, about your life or death.
So, if you want to become more healthy, long term, forget the new fad diet then check out our health app Quealth.
You may well find it helps underpin a deep and lasting commitment to create healthy change.
